The Buri were a Germanic people in the Carpathian region. Tacitus expressly places them, by their language and customs, among the Suebi.
Their territory bordered that of the Lugii and the Cotini. So the Buri lay in a densely mixed border region where Germanic, Celtic and Sarmatian worlds met.
During the Marcomannic Wars of Marcus Aurelius the Buri entered Roman sources: they negotiated with Rome, demanded support and would only join a campaign if Rome marched too. A small people that coolly weighed its interests.
